Overview

Well-controlled asthma can mean fewer flare-ups in the first place. A primary care provider can help you build a long-term management plan, not just treat symptoms after they show up, by tracking how often you're using rescue medication and adjusting your maintenance plan accordingly.

How ongoing primary care can help

Your provider will review your symptom frequency, trigger exposure, and current medications to help fine-tune your maintenance treatment and make sure you have a clear action plan for flare-ups.

When to seek emergency careSevere shortness of breath, blue lips, or a rescue inhaler that isn't helping are medical emergencies. Call 911 or go to the nearest ER.

Frequently asked questions

Can asthma management really be managed over telehealth?
In many cases, yes. A primary care provider can evaluate your symptoms and history over video, review any recent labs, and help adjust your treatment plan when appropriate. For some chronic conditions, especially if they are uncontrolled, our providers may need to collect/complete vital signs, physical exams, lab tests, or imaging which requires an in person visit. Our providers will help you take the next step.
Do I need to keep seeing the same provider?
Continuity helps, as seeing the same provider over time means they already know your history and current plan, which usually means faster, more informed visits.
What if I need to be seen in person?
If your provider determines your condition needs an in-person exam, testing, or treatment they can't provide virtually, they'll let you know and help direct you to the right next step.
